#Inktober 2019 - Katnipp Illustration Prompts

Ah, the awesome drawing challenge, Inktober. If you’re not familiar with what #Inktober is, it’s a wonderful drawing challenge that artists all over the world take during the month of October by doing one ink drawing a day for the entire month. It’s open to anyone and everyone and all you need is just pen and paper. I think Inktober has evolved since it began back in 2009—it’s become a challenge for all artists of any/all mediums! Many digital artists, painters, and other non-ink or pen artists participate, and there are WAY more prompts that you can pick and choose from to participate in the challenge, aside from the original/”official” prompts that you could find on Inktober’s website.

I also believe it’s become more of a general challenge to any artist looking to consistently do a piece of artwork each day. I think this is wonderful for those who are looking to sharpen skills, need some sort of inspiration to stir up their creativity, and a whole slew of other things. In general, it’s a really awesome challenge to take. I’ve been trying to participate probably since it came out. I initially started and participated with the original intended idea—I did a lot of pen/inking artwork, and “failed” since I didn’t stick to the challenges consistently. I made it a couple days most years, sometimes a week or two into it other years, but I’ve never actually finished the challenge by doing something every day. I always play catch up if I even keep up with the prompts. Now, while I played catch up for the 2019 challenge, I’m still really proud of myself for completing the entire challenge, playing catch up or not! I took a week vacation in the middle of October (woot Disney World) and went straight back to work the week after—I took the weekend after to catch up on the week before’s prompts, and then finished by the 31st strong! This year was my first year seriously dabbling in digital artwork, so I was really excited to use the Inktober challenge to improve and just consistently work on digital artwork and improve (even if just a little). If you’re interested in the timelapses for each prompt, be sure to check out my Inktober highlights on my Instagram. For the 2019 Inktober, I fell in love with Katnipp Illustration’s prompt list and just her in general. I love her art style and her prompt list for this year was adorable and I had to get in on it.

I have a lot of my prompt submissions posted to my IG feed and in my highlights, but I thought it would be really cool to see them all here on the blog, in a gallery, where you can see my progression. I feel like I made steady improvements with each piece and that’s really inspiring! Since I took a vacation in the middle of October, you’ll see where I ran out of time to dedicate more to each prompt. I switched from full color pieces to more simple and sketchy type pieces.

I hope you enjoy! Let me know in the comments section, which prompt I did that was your favorite! I’m kind of in love with my Marshmallow prompt honestly. Do you participate in Inktober? Let me know if you do, I’d love to see your work!
