First Impressions: Glossier Skywash

I wasn’t planning on getting these little guys when Glossier first dropped Skywash, but they got me with that duo bundle—perfect for me because I was only interested in just two shades. Skywash retails for $18 USD and the Skywash Duo allows you to choose two shades for $30 USD saving you a little cash money.

I’m a fan of Glossier’s Lidstar and I religiously wear the shade “Cub” whenever I wear makeup. It looks good as is with mascara, or for extra polish I throw on eyeliner. Lidstars are shimmery and somewhat metallic, Skywash claims to be a matte eyeshadow. Lidstar can get a bit patchy if you put on too much at once and it’s not the most buildable on my oily lids. I really wanted to give Skywash a shot because Glossier claims these to be liquid-to-powder, matte and “powder-finish formula without the powdery feel”, blendable color, diffused look, and silky on the eyes. I am always on the hunt for makeup that’s great for minimal folks. I’ve shied away from heavier makeup as I’ve gotten older and as I continue to deal with my sometimes unhappy skin. Skywash is supposed to be buildable or provide that diffused “wash of color” look. So I expected these to be somewhat sheer and decided to pick up the two darkest shades I think, out of the bunch. Terra is a vivid burnt sienna shade, which if you know me, is my JAM, and Echo is a lovely dark cocoa brown.

Each tube contains 3.5ml or 0.11 fl oz. Skywash has a soft doe foot applicator so you can easily swipe this onto your lid and blend out with your finger and build up or add more layers if you desire. I typically like to wear super simple and quick eye makeup. So these are actually perfect for me—I don’t need a brush or sponges or tools to make these look good on my eyelids. These would also be great for travel.

I think the whole color range Glossier Skywash comes in is beautiful, but I know that those lighter/pastel shades would likely disappear on my eyes, so I went for the darkest shades. Which, I found to be easily blended out for that pretty diffused and washed out look. I LOVE these two colors and I especially love the texture—Glossier is spot on with calling it “silky”. These glide onto the eyes and blend like a dream. I haven’t tried building up the color so I can’t speak on if it gets patchy or not. I prefer a blended or wash-of-color look on my eyes, so if you’re looking for something intense you’ll want to try building these up or use it as a base for powder shadows, maybe!

I’m wearing Terra in the photos below and I think it’s my favorite shade of the two. Echo is really pretty for that super effortless look and I find the shade of cocoa goes with everything. I’ve worn these a few times since I received it in the mail, and the first time I wore it, I didn’t have any base of any kind and it did end up creasing on me after a few hours. Glossier does claim that these are long-wearing (up to 12 hours) and smudge-resistant, but I didn’t find that to be true with no base for me and my oily lids. Lidstar actually can last all day (about 8 hours) on my lids with no base.

In the photos below, I used a bit of Glossier Stretch concealer around my eyes and whatever was leftover I put on my lids and then set everything with some Wowder. I’m in the shade G8 for Stretch, Wowder, and Skin Tint in case you’re wondering. Using a base and setting the base before applying Skywash, helped me a lot in the longevity department. I’d say with proper eye prep, these will last a good, solid 6ish hours on me. I’ll have to try intensifying the color as the amount I use may have something to do with it.

Overall, I really like Skywash. I really love the color range (inspired by Southwest landscapes), it’s easy and quick to use, will travel well, gorgeous and pleasant texture (silky), effortlessly blendable, pretty wash of color for minimal makeup days, and doesn’t irritate my eyes. This is a great product for someone who’s looking for something that’s not fussy and takes less than 5 minutes to throw on. This is lazy girl approved! My only gripes are that I wish it was a just a little more smudge-resistant and lasted longer on me without needing to prep (#OilyGirlProblems). I think for the price point, these are reasonable for someone like me that doesn’t wear makeup every day or very frequently. I wear makeup a few times a week, and I see these Skywash tubes lasting me a long time. I’d repurchase Terra for sure because I already know I’ll wear it all the time and likely a bit more often than Echo.

I hope you all enjoyed this quick first impressions overview and thoughts on this new Glossier drop! Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried it yet, what your favorite colors are, what you think, or if you’re interested in trying them out!
